Unable to install Windows 10 updates-Errors occurs during Windows update
If you are encountering the “Windows 7 Configuration Update Failure: Reverting Changes” error, it can be frustrating. This issue typically arises after installing Windows updates or during system shutdown or restart, particularly after applying a new update or configuration changes.
1. Unplug Removable Devices from your Laptop
When a removable device like a USB or memory card is attached to your computer, it can cause an issue during the update of your Windows. We suggest you unplug the removable devices and try updating Windows again. If the issue continues, proceed to the next step.
2. Use Clean Boot State to Install Windows Update
Installing Windows updates in a clean boot state minimizes the chances of encountering errors, as only essential operating system functions will be running.
Steps to Use Clean Boot
- Press Windows + R keys simultaneously to open the Run window.
- Type msconfig in the Run window and click OK.
- In the popup window, navigate to the General tab and select Selective Startup.
- Uncheck the Load Startup Items option.
- Go to the Services tab, select Hide All Microsoft Services, click Disable All, and then click OK.
3. Use Windows Update Troubleshooter
Running the Windows Update troubleshooter can help resolve the “reverting changes” issue. While Windows has a built-in troubleshooter, downloading and running the Microsoft Update Troubleshooter is often more efficient.
